Train Spotting

Welcome to one of the world’s most spectacular sceneries! The Canadian Rockies are unique and offer not only many opportunities for hikers, bikers, and bear watchers, but also for trainspotters.

Martin Bennett, an avid train chaser himself, has compiled an extensive documentation for Goldenwood Lodge guests about trainspotting in the Canadian Rockies.

Our interested guests get a detailed list with over 40 train spot locations between Banff and Craigellachie, including access description, train driving directions, optimal daytime for photo shooting, and distance from Goldenwood Lodge.

A binder with pictures, information about train-watching basics, tools of railroading, freight cars, trains and yards, passenger trains, locomotives, train control systems, railway terms, signals, etc. can be viewed at the Goldenwood Lodge.
